Mud Season is upon us…

As the snow melts and the temperatures rise in the Adirondacks, locals and visitors alike know that "mud season" has arrived. This transitional time of year can be a bit tricky to navigate, but there are plenty of things to do in the Adirondacks during this season.

One must-stop destination during mud season is the Fulton Chain Craft Brewery, located in Old Forge, NY(I mean come on, we are the people writing this). After a long day of hiking or exploring the local area, stopping in for a beer at this locally owned and operated brewery is the perfect way to unwind and relax.

But what else is there to do during mud season? Here are a few ideas:

Hiking - While some trails may still be muddy and slippery, there are plenty of trails that are still accessible during mud season. Take in the fresh air and beautiful scenery while getting some exercise. Spotting local wildlife is easier before it starts to get green and with increase sighting of moose in the area you might just see an “Old Forge Unicorn”.

Fishing - The Adirondacks are home to some of the best fishing in the country. Whether you're a seasoned angler or a beginner, there's nothing quite like casting a line in one of the Adirondack's many rivers, lakes, or streams. If you befriend the right local they might just tell you of a good spot to hit(just don’t listen to anyone who tells you about 9th lake). Smelting season is almost here and you’re in for a treat if you have never seen them run!

Exploring Local Towns - Many of the Adirondack's quaint towns and villages have unique shops, galleries, and restaurants worth exploring. Take a leisurely stroll through Old Forge or another nearby town, and enjoy the local sights and sounds. The hotels/motels offer special discounts during this time and make for a great getaway to the area!

Visit Museums and Historic Sites - The Adirondacks are rich in history and culture. Take some time to visit local museums, historic sites, and cultural centers to learn more about the area's past and present. One of our favorites is the View art gallery here in town, or the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain, NY.

Relax and Unwind - Sometimes, the best thing to do during mud season is to simply relax and take it easy. Whether it's curling up with a good book, taking a long bath, or indulging in a yoga class(plenty of people in the Old Forge area have classes), taking care of yourself is always a good idea.

No matter how you choose to spend your time during mud season in the Adirondacks, be sure to make a stop by and visit us at Fulton Chain Craft Brewery. With their delicious locally-sourced brews and cozy atmosphere, it's the perfect spot to kick back and enjoy the season.
